ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo is an annual Hawaiian language speech competition held in Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaiʻi where speakers from preschool through adult ages compete in a variety of categories from memorized rescitations of literature and noted speeches, to chant and singing. It is a testament to the living oral tradition of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, being fostered among young and old engaged in the Hawaiian language movemnt. This particular segment is of students between grade 1-3 who were tasked to memorize an excerpt from the Hawaiian language newspaper, Ke Aloha Aina, dated on June 1st, 1895.
