ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo is an annual Hawaiian language speech competition held in Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaiʻi where speakers from preschool through adult ages compete in a variety of categories from memorized rescitations of literature and noted speeches, to chant and singing. It is a testament to the living oral tradition of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, being fostered among young and old engaged in the Hawaiian language movemnt. This particular segment is of students between grades 4-6 who competed in a series of categories including memorization, speech, song and chant. In the memorization category, students were tasked with reciting an excerpt from the Hawaiian language newspaper, Ka Leo o Ka Lahui, dated on April 9th, 1894.
