The 2019 Mokuola Honua Symposium focused on discussions and formulating strategies of language revitalization and normalization efforts through four thematic strands of society; Education, Policy and Government, Media and Business. On Wednesday, November 20th 2019, a series of presenters shared some of their unique language efforts in these specific language domains. Mahina Paishon-Duarte presented on Hawaiian language business strategies and progress.

Mahina is a social entrepreneur who has worked in a number of educational and cultural organizations in Hawaiʻi. Most recently, she co-founded and is a managing partner of Waiwai Collective, a contemporary Hawaiian space for community, culture and commerce. Mahina studies and hones her practices as a cultural practitioner with Nā Kālai Waʻa, Hālau o ke ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani and at Heʻeia fishpond. She also serves on the boards of Kahilu Theatre, the Oʻahu Economic Development Board, Friends of Iolani Palace, and the Trust for Public Land.
